Blade exchange tool for maintenance of wind turbines

Temporary Works Design (TWD) and Wagenborg have developed a Blade Exchange Tool, a floating turbine maintenance system to maintain or replace the rotor blades.

Replacing a jack-up ship with this floating solution significantly reduces cost and time. With the design of this turbine maintenance system, the companies have developed an innovative floating removal and installation method.

The vessel with the Blade Exchange Tool is equipped with a motion compensation system to reduce movements during the work on the turbines and ensures a secure connection.

The demand for expected and unexpected maintenance work increases with any newly installed offshore wind turbine.

A scale model of the Blade Exchange Tool is available at the Offshore Energy Exhibition in Amsterdam RAI on October 10 and 11.
